Coverage table
Estimates assume standard 11" latex balloons on helium indoors. Counts are based on industry guidance that ~0.66 sq ft of ceiling is covered per 11" balloon (round up for full coverage). Actual results vary by spacing, drafts, and textured ceilings.

Ribbon length
Ribbons hang below the ceiling; adjust for doorways and tall guests. Trim on-site.
36–42 in tails (keep walkways clear).
48–54 in tails (popular for photos).
60–72 in tails (dramatic look).
84–96 in tails (venue scale).
| Ceiling height | Recommended ribbon length |
|---|---|
| 8 ft | 36–42 in |
| 9 ft | 48–54 in |
| 10 ft | 60–72 in |
| 12 ft | 84–96 in |
Safety & cleanup
- Avoid hot lights and rough/textured ceilings. These can pop balloons. If needed, keep a small gap using monofilament lines or removable tabs.
- Test adhesives on a hidden spot. Painter’s tape with a small glue dot on the tape (not the paint) is a common, gentler method.
- Turn off ceiling fans and HVAC drafts during setup.
- Cleanup tip: Use a broom with painter’s tape wrapped sticky-side out to catch dangling ribbons; snip knots and recycle latex where facilities exist.
Float time depends on temperature, handling, and treatments like Hi-Float. Indoor setups last longer than outdoor.

FAQ
How many balloons do I need for my ceiling?
Find the ceiling area (L × W) and divide by 0.66 for 11" latex to get a full-coverage estimate. Adjust up or down for density.
Does ceiling height change the count?
No. Count is based on area. Ceiling height mainly affects ribbon length and ladder safety.
What ribbon length should I cut?
Use ~36–42 in for 8 ft ceilings, 48–54 in for 9 ft, 60–72 in for 10 ft, and 84–96 in for 12 ft. Trim on-site.
How do I avoid paint damage?
Test first. Keep balloons off rough surfaces and hot lights. Use painter’s tape with small glue dots applied to the tape, not directly to paint.
How long will they float?
Float time varies with temperature, handling, and additives like Hi-Float. Indoors typically lasts longer than outdoors.
